About Tina

Tina was transferred from another rescue with a foal at her side. She was underweight with a prominent backbone and ribs but gained weight with good nutrition.

Tina competed in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the 2024 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Elaina Battenfield. You can follow her progress on her Facebook page CLICK HERE

Evaluation and Training

Tina is a very cute, sweet mare with a laid-back personality. She will come when called and is amenable to being haltered, led, and loaded in a trailer. Although she lifted her feet for her foster mom, she was reactive during her first encounter with a farrier. Since her training she now easily picks up all 4 feet.

She’s learning ground manners and has walked over a bridge and is going over jumps. Tina wants to explore new territory, bravely stepping forward with curious eyes and ears to learn about the tractor, implements, and other obstacles outside her pasture. Tina and her foster are working on standing quietly while tied and her stall-mate is out of view and accepting spray from a spray bottle.

Tina has been ridden before the Oct. event at a walk and trot, bareback with a halter. Tina readily wears an English saddle for walk/trots on a lead and responds well for brief lunging exposure. Tina is learning to accept a western saddle and is doing well. She loves walking through a sprinkler and has been introduced to a tractor, and chickens.

(Her foster) is time traveling back to being a 10-year-old, envisioning activities with Tina that a youngster would do. We’re pulling on her tail, braiding her mane, gesturing and starting/stopping with no rhyme or reason. Tina responds quietly and patiently. She’s perfect for a youngster whose parents will commit to a trainer for riding skills where Tina and her young partner will grow together.
Tina is very green, so she's going to need an advanced rider, or an intermediate who is working with a trainer, to bring her along. But she's a fun and sweet little mare who is ready to take on the world.
