About Debbie

Debbie is one of the lucky ones: she was owned by one owner all of her life and always cared for before coming to Bluebonnet. Unfortunately, after owning Debbie for almost 25 years, her owner could no longer care for her and placed her with Bluebonnet.

Debbie was born with a deformed back right leg. While she gets around fine in pasture and can walk and trot on a lead line, her owner didn’t feel she was safe to ride and never trained her. She was kept as a pampered pet all of her life. Debbie may not be a riding partner, but she shines as a loyal, and curious companion horse.

Debbie is competing in the In-Hand 12 and Under Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Gabby Davis. Debbie will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Curious and easy to catch with treats
- Affectionate — enjoys pets and sometimes asks for a hug
- Can be pushy at times, so benefits from a confident handler
- Gets along well in smaller herds and usually seeks a best buddy
- Lives peacefully with mares, geldings, chickens, and ducks
- An “easy keeper” who maintains weight well

Training & Abilities:
- Comfortable to handle on the ground with patient guidance
-Easy to halter and will even drop her head for halter at times.
- When being led, she prefers to take her time rather than rush
- Learning to ground tie — and actually prefers that over being tied
- Learning to accept Fly spray
- Has participated in obstacle work and liberty-type training with steady progress

Background & Care:
- Sensitive to fly spray and water — needs gentle, patient exposure
- Needs a calm and confident handler; currently working with a youth handler under close supervision from a parent and trainer
- When she decides she’s finished, she can be pushy — which is why she’s best suited for an intermediate handler, not small children

Why She’s Amazing:
Debbie may not be a horse for the saddle, but she has so much to give. She thrives when she has a horse friend to bond with. With a strong bond and patient handling, Debbie is eager to learn, connect, and be part of her human’s world. She is ready to bring joy, comfort, and loyal companionship to the right home.
