Bowie came to Bluebonnet when his owner could not care for him. Unlike most of our horses, Bowie wasn't emaciated or even thin when he arrived, he was obese! Obesity in horses can be just as unhealthy as emaciation, so Bowie's foster home worked with her veterinarian to overhaul Bowie's diet and get him healthier. Fortunately, he's now looking - and feeling - great.

Bowie is an adorable guy who loves attention. Sometimes he loves attention a little too much and wants to crowd into your personal space. He's a smart guy, though, and responds to gentle correction. He was living out without a lot of human interaction for quite some time, so he gets so excited about having someone love and pet him that he just forgets those personal space lessons and needs an occasional reminder.

While with his foster home, he's learned to lunge, navigate obstacles in hand, and carry a saddle and bridle. He and his foster enjoy long walks down the roads in her neighborhood, and he doesn't mind vehicles, trash bins and mailboxes, or anything else they encounter. It seems like he could make a great little trail pony once he gets trained to ride.
