About Butters

Butters was seized from negligent owners and then placed with Bluebonnet by the courts. She was emaciated when she arrived, matted hair covered her body, and her long mane was full of giant knots. When her first foster home started grooming her and gently working the knots out of her mane, Butters melted into the grooming session. She relaxed, closed her eyes, and seemed to say that she had been waiting for this kind of attention for some time. We think it is pretty likely Butters has been ridden in the past. She's almost perfect to handle on the ground, stands great for the farrier, and loads into a trail like a champ.
Sometime in her life, Butters picked up the stereotypy of cribbing, but a cribbing collar keeps her from doing it and good and plentiful food and lots of love keep her stress level low. Once she's healthier, we'll get her evaluated under saddle and see what she knows.

Butters is competing in the In-Hand 12 and Under Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Meghan Cory. Butters will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX.
