About Applesauce

Applesauce came to Bluebonnet when his previous owner could no longer care for him, and he has quickly proven himself to be a kind, curious, and easy-going gelding with a lot of potential. Despite being 20, Applesauce isn’t ready to slow down. Arabians are long-lived horses who are often ridden into their late 20s – sometimes even into their 30s!

Applesauce is competing in the Professional Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Courtney Fain. Applesauce will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Friendly, people-oriented gelding who enjoys attention.
- Curious and thoughtful — may be watchful in new situations at first but prefers to think rather than spook.
- Low man in the herd; gets along well with mares and geldings.
- Comfortable around chickens, barn cats, and dogs that run underfoot.
- Laid-back in group settings, not food aggressive, and gets along well with easy-going companions.

Training & Abilities:
- Stands tied for grooming and fly spray.
- Stands well for farrier.
- Starting to enjoy cool rinses on hot days
- Bridling with a bit is a work in progress (likes to lift his head) but getting better with consistent “head down” cue.
- Learning ground tying and already showing progress.
- Started in a bosal — soft, responsive, and light.
- Transitioning to a bit with steady improvement.
- Moves off leg pressure, bends nicely, and yields hindquarters.
- Learning side pass, backing straight, and standing quietly for mounting.
- Trot work includes figure 8s and circles; balanced and responsive.
- Lopes on the correct lead consistently in both directions.
- Practiced walk, trot, turns, and halts during a round pen session with a youth rider.
- Hauled to new places with no issues.
- Attended an obstacle challenge with tarps, balloons, parachutes, pool noodles, and more — cautious at first but thought through each challenge.
- Participated in a barrel race environment with tractors, crowds, and excitable horses — stayed controlled and calm once settled.
- Willing to pony off another horse and trailers well.

Why He’s Amazing:
What makes Applesauce truly special is his gentle, willing nature and the way he approaches every new challenge with thoughtfulness instead of fear. He’s the kind of horse who wants to connect with his person, tries hard to understand what’s being asked, and improves with every ride. Whether he’s meeting strange animals, tackling new obstacles, or being introduced to a different rider, Applesauce consistently shows patience, curiosity, and heart. With his solid foundation, sweet personality, and eagerness to please, he has all the qualities to become not just a reliable partner and can go in any direction.
