About The Huntsman
The Huntsman is a 13-year-old, 16.2h Thoroughbred gelding. He was initially placed with another rescue when his owner could no longer care for him and was later transferred to us for training and rehoming. Previously a hunter/jumper, he arrived underweight and traumatized by trailers.
He was enrolled in the 2025 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge, but his trainer had to withdraw. During her time with him, she helped him overcome his trailering fears and taught him to load.
Due to concerns about possible kissing spines, The Huntsman was evaluated by a veterinarian experienced with the condition. He has mild changes but was deemed sound to ride. He will need a rider who can rebuild his topline from the ground and teach him to carry himself properly before restarting under saddle. His trainer sat on him once, and he bucked; he has not been ridden since.
The Huntsman will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE

- Submissive in the pasture
- Can be slightly pushy on the ground at first
- Gets along well with mares and geldings
Training & Abilities:
- Loves bribes to be caught in large areas; easy to catch in smaller areas
- Lunges in both directions in round pen and on a lunge line
- Walks beside you when leading

- Stands tied for grooming, baths, and fly spray
- Excellent and easy for the farrier
- Comfortable with an English saddle and stands for tacking up
- Introduced to obstacles in hand
- Knows how to ground drive
- Trainer only sat on him once and said he bucked, needs to be restarted once is topline is built up
Background & Care:
- Has a mild case of kissing spines but vet feels he’s rideable once he’s built a topline
- Did not load well at all when picked up, still will not load into a straight load trailer
Why He’s Amazing:
The Huntsman is a big, sweet boy with a stunning trot and lovely suspension. For the right experienced horse person willing to bring him back into shape, he could excel as a low-level dressage horse, pleasure horse, or trail companion. His affectionate personality and willingness to learn make him a truly special horse.
