About Lord Farquaad
Lord Farquaad came to Bluebonnet after being given to another rescue. He hadn’t had a lot of handling when he arrived, and he was still a stallion. We got him gelded and placed him with a foster home willing to handle him so he could eventually find a forever home.
He’s a cute little guy – who doesn’t know he’s little! He is smart, responsive, and enjoys human interaction.
Lord Farquaad is competing in the In-Hand 13 and Over Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Destiny Simpkins. Lord Farquaad will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE
The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 4, 2025, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.
Evaluation and Training
Personality & Manners:
- First to greet you in the pasture
- Very sweet, loves scratches and attention
- Sassy but polite
- Calm, curious, and not easily spooked (even umbrellas bigger than him don’t bother him!)
- Gets along with mares, geldings, and especially loves following his pasture mate around
Training & Abilities:
- Easy to halter and handle
- Loads in the trailer well—sometimes even loads himself
- Stands tied for grooming, baths, fly spray, and the farrier
- Patient for detangling and braiding his long, luxurious mane, tail, and forelock
- Lunges at the walk, trot, lope, stop, and can change directions
- Learning to ground drive and already responding well
- Ground ties like a pro
- Has been ponied by another horse and now keeps pace beautifully
- Comfortable exploring new places without anxiety
- Introduced to trail and obstacle work—calm, steady, and willing
Background & Care:
- He will need regular grooming to keep up with his long, thick hair, but he stands patiently for his “hair appointments.”
- He is too small to be ridden but can learn to pull a cart or do in hand obstacles.
Why He’s Amazing:
Lord Farquaad may be small in size, but he’s overflowing with heart and personality. He’s easy to handle, quick to learn, and brave in the face of new challenges. He would make a wonderful companion, family pet, or future partner for fun in-hand activities. He could be trained to drive, too, which can be a fun way to spend time with your horse (or in his case, your mini!)
