About Laverne
Laverne was part of a large neglect case. She was removed in a joint effort between BEHS and three other agencies. She was placed with BEHS by the courts. She recovered and then hung out in a foster home waiting for her forever person. She moved to a new home in July 2012 to train for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. She and her teenage trainer won the Youth division at the Challenge, and then her trainer adopted her!
Evaluation and Training
Laverne spent July-October 2012 working with a youth participant for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. She's learned to navigate obstacles, and her foster handler/trainer has even started riding her bareback. She's such a willing mare that she would be fun to train for open shows or trail. Her foster home says she loves treats and will do almost anything for one, so it makes her easy to train.
Her foster home says, "I personally LOVE this mare, she is one of the nicest horses I've met, does not have a mean bone in her body. If she is still with us after the expo Chrissy is planning on teaching her how to jump. So far she walks and trots over poles on the ground and has good eye for distances so I think she would very easily learn to clear jumps. Given that she is so calm she would make a good show horse. Laverne has that natural Arabian beauty in her movement, carrying her tail up and has a very fluid and pretty movement, that is why I am thinking she would make a nice show horse, she can easily win the flat classes."
Laverne is competing in the 2012 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge on October 20, 2012 at the Bluebonnet Horse Expo in Austin, Texas. She will not be available for adoption until the day of the Expo.
