About Elliot

Elliot was part of a large neglect case. He was removed in a joint effort between BEHS and law enforcement and then placed with BEHS by the courts. Elliot hadn't been handled much when he came to BEHS, but he had a great foster home who worked with him on the ground. He then spent time with two professional trainers to be started under saddle and get additional training. It took him a while, but he finally found his adopters in 2015. They returned him later that year when their college-age daughter realized she had a hard time keeping up with a horse and college. Fortunately, his previous foster home had fallen in love with him and was happy to adopt him!

Evaluation and Training

Elliot was not handled before coming to BEHS, but his foster home taught him to wear a halter, lead, be caught, stand for the farrier and be a good equine citizen. He spent April and May 2012 in training and was walking, trotting and cantering under saddle in a round pen. He went to a novice home in 2012 and developed bad habits. He spent May 2013 in training for a refresher, and the trainer says he’s a lazy horse who will test riders and make them prove they can ride. After a few weeks of riding by a professional, he was doing much better but we believe he’ll test new riders. He isn’t a horse for a novice or a timid rider, but he could be a nice trail/pleasure horse for a more experienced rider.
