About Caleb
Caleb came to BEHS as part of a seizure in 2009. He had been part of a children's riding program before he fell victim to neglect. Once he finished his rehabilitation, we found that he was trained to ride. He was adopted by a family as a companion to their horse and a pleasure riding horse. He was returned to Bluebonnet in August 2021 when his adopter needed to downsize their herd. He was quickly adopted again but then returned in Nov. 2023 when his adopter started having health issues and could no longer care for him.
Evaluation and Training
Before Caleb came to Bluebonnet, he was part of a lesson and camp program for kids. He was ridden in his foster homes when he came to us but then kept as a pet by his adopters.
In November 2023, he was placed with a new foster home who does not have a lot of horse experience, and they’ve done well together. He picks up all four feet for cleaning and trimming, stands for grooming, and stands well to be blanketed. He stands well to be saddled and mounted, and he’s currently being ridden in a western saddle and curb bit.
He’s been ridden by both an adult as well as a child in his current foster home and has done well. His foster “dad” has taken him to clinics where they’ve ridden over poles, ridden over a teeter totter, and gone through pool noodles. He can be a bit nervous with noisy obstacles and does not like dragging objects – although those could both improve with exposure.
We think Caleb would love a home where he gets to be ridden - he could do obstacles, trail, or pleasure riding. He could be ridden by kids if they’re supervised or riding in lessons as well.
