About Contessa

Contessa was removed from a negligent owner and placed with BEHS by an animal control officer. When Contessa was removed from her negligent owner, she went straight to a vet to have a halter removed from her head. It was put on her when she was young, left on her and had grown into her skin. She had scars for quite a while from the halter, but they began to fade. In 2012, she went to a trainer and excelled. He said she was sweet, calm and a fast learner and he was impressed with her. She was adopted a few months later to be part of a children’s therapy program. She was returned in 2016 because her adopter was aging and felt she could not keep up with her horses any longer. She was immediately adopted by a previous BEHS adopter but returned a few months later because she didn't fit in well with the herd. Contessa attended the 2016 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and was adopted at the event.

Evaluation and Training

She just spent almost two months with a trainer in 2012 and he says she's got a great mind, is willing to please, and has huge potential. Her second adopter used her for trail rides, and she was doing well when she was returned.
