About Rufio

Rufio and 11 other horses were part of a cruelty seizure in NE Texas. Rufio and his herdmates were awarded to BEHS by the courts. Rufio had not been handled before coming to BEHS, and he had a tough path to travel. Thanks to two great foster homes, Rufio was rehabilitated and gentled. He was taught to be caught, haltered, and led. He was adopted at the 2013 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and then returned in 2018 when he wasn't working out for his adopters.

In December 2019 Rufio once again found a place to call home. Congratulations to Rufio and his new family!

Evaluation and Training

Rufio was not been handled prior to coming to BEHS. His foster home taught him to be caught, lead, stand tied, and load.

Rufio can work obstacles in hand and is not scared of anything! Due to conformation faults, his pasterns have begun to drop and he should no longer be ridden. He's sound but the stress of frequent riding will likely cause him to break down.

His foster mom says, "Rufio is currently living in Cedar Creek with two donkeys as pasture mates. He gets along great with them and other farm animals. Rufio loves being handled and brushed, and is very affectionate. When he sees his foster mom come out he always heads her way for a treat, and there isn’t one available he is just as happy to have a hug and a kiss.
Rufio is on the small side and is very easy to handle. Leads well, and since he always approaches people first, catching him is not an issue. He is self-confident and does not have any fears.
Rufio would be a wonderful horse for someone who would just enjoy having him there to love on. He’s a beautiful and gentle soul looking for a forever home."

Rufio is a handsome guy with a huge attitude. He's going to be a great horse for someone who wants to share their lives with a piece of American history - but who doesn't need or want another horse to ride.
