About Nevada Bandana
Nevada Bandana came to BEHS in 2011 along with several other mustangs who were seized for neglect. She hadn't been handled much when she came to BEHS, and she was pretty sure she didn't want to ever become a riding horse. Fortunately, she met an adopter who fell in love with her and adopted her to be a companion to his other horse. In fact, she was adopted as a birthday gift to himself! Congrats to Nevada Bandana and Justin!
Evaluation and Training
Nevada Bandana was barely halter broke when she arrived at BEHS, but her foster home has spent a lot of time working with her. She taught Bandi to lead and stand for the farrier and began desensitizing her to things like a saddle blanket. Bandi spent March-May with a trainer to get started under saddle. She did get a great deal of ground work done, but she began bucking while carrying a saddle and was never ridden.
Nevada Bandana started preparing for the 2013 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge in July 2013. Her trainer, Holly, has done a great deal of desensitizing and ground work with her. She's learned to navigate trail obstacles and is doing great. Holly has sat on Nevada Bandana a few times. She's going to need an experienced horse trainer who can dedicate time to her training.
Nevada Bandana is competing with Holly Hammons in the professional division of the 2013 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. She will be available for adoption at the Challenge on October 19th, 2013 at the Bluebonnet Horse Expo in Austin, Texas.
