About Little Eddie
Little Eddie, or just Eddie as he prefers to be called, has come such a long way from the scared little donkey jack who was found estray before coming to Bluebonnet. After being gelded and brought up to date on his vet and farrier care, Eddie went to a foster home experienced with donkeys. There, he came out of his shell once he met someone who “spoke donkey” and didn’t expect him to act just like a horse.
With patience and understanding, Eddie has learned to enjoy people. Today, he’s a sweet, gentle pet who is halter trained, loves attention, and brings joy to those around him.
Eddie loves his pasture-mate, Heath, and we prefer that the two of them stay together. If adopted alone, Little Eddie’s adoption fee is $1,200. If you adopt both him and Heath, their adoption fee is $1,400 for the pair. If you don’t adopt the pair, you will need to have another donkey companion for Eddie.
Little Eddie is competing in the In-Hand 12 and Under Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Layna Schroeder. Little Eddie will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Personality & Manners:
- Sweet, gentle, and affectionate once he warms up
- Loves scratches and attention
- Curious and willing, enjoys trying new things
- Sometimes needs a little patience to be caught, but improving every day
- Talks at breakfast time (adorably!)
- Easy keeper
- Bonds strongly to both people and other donkeys
Training & Abilities:
- Halter trained and leads well
- Stands tied for grooming, hoof care, and fly spray
- Good for baths, though he prefers rolling afterward
- Stands for the farrier with reassurance
- Loads well, with others in trailer it might take a little encouragement
- Great with agility obstacles, enjoys in-hand work
- Comfortable wearing fly boots to protect his legs
- Has dressed up in costumes and even attended events as a little “spokes donkey”
Background & Care:
- He needs a companion and prefers his buddy who is also available Heath.
- He only gets a small amount of grain because he thinks he is a horse but only needs hay.
- Companion donkey (not for riding or guarding livestock)
Why He’s Amazing:
Little Eddie has transformed from a scared little donkey into a sweet, people-oriented companion who loves being part of his human’s world. He’s fun, curious, and enjoys learning new things — from obstacle practice to showing off in costume! He would thrive in a home where he gets regular interaction, whether its kids brushing him, someone walking him on trails, or even a family wanting to explore donkey agility.
