About Laser

Laser was removed from negligent owners and placed with BEHS by animal control. He had been started under saddle before coming to BEHS, but he didn’t know much. He worked with a foster home in 2012 to compete in the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and he improved under saddle. His rider/trainer for the Challenge taught him to navigate trail obstacles and rode him in a round pen, arena, and field. She rode him in an arena and took him on his first trail ride.

Laser developed a bucking problem in 2014 and spent several weeks with a trainer. The trainer got him to overcome his bucking problem but he began bucking again when given time off. He spent time with the Johnson family for training from July – October 2014. They restarted him using Natural Horsemanship techniques and he did not bucked with them. He also competed in the Foster Horse Under Saddle division in 2015. His foster home and competitor for the competition continued trail riding Laser and decided to adopt him and add him to their herd. Congrats to Laser and the Glass Family!

Evaluation and Training

Laser’s first foster home worked with him and didn't believe he was broke to ride prior to coming to BEHS. He learned to carry a saddle, bridle, and rider in his first foster home. He is gentle, smart, and learns easily. He loads in the trailer, clips, baths, and stands for the shoer.

He can stop, back up, turn, and will move off of your leg. He is very willing to go forward and does not spook. He would make a great trail horse. He is a sweet natured horse.

Laser's current foster home has been trail riding him. He has not bucked with his current rider/foster home, but he dd buck when tested by a less confident/skilled rider. He requires consistent work, and he's not a good horse for someone who only wants to ride occasionally, a novice, or a timid rider. He is doing great on trails, though, and is fearless. He could make a nice competitive trail or pleasure trail horse for a confident rider.

Laser competed in and placed 2nd in the foster horse under saddle division of the 2015 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge.
