About Charlotte

Charlotte was seized by law enforcement and placed with BEHS by the courts. Charlotte was adopted in 2013 but returned shortly after through no fault of her own. Charlotte competed in the 2014 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge in the Foster Horse Needing Retraining/Tuning Division and did excellent. A newly approved adopter met her at the Expo and ended up fostering her a month later. She adopted her but returned her in 2018 because she no longer had time for her. Charlotte was adopted a few months after she was returned by a family just in time for Mother's Day! She was returned in December 2018.

Charlotte was enrolled in the Fall 2019 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge, but her trainer decided to pull her out and adopt her instead! We’re excited to see Charlotte get a great new home!

Evaluation and Training

Charlotte is a very sensitive mare who loves to work! She loads and unloads easily, stands quietly for hoof picking, saddling, and baths. She walks, trots, and lopes both directions under saddle with light cues. She will work in small spaces but prefers large spaces. She knows how to pivot and to half-pass, and has been introduced to a barrel pattern. Charlotte turns on a dime! She is a great trail horse with a tremendous amount of endurance. She has great potential as a working ranch horse.

Charlotte bonds deeply with one person and will perform at her best for that person. Gentle, positive, patient techniques yield wonderful results with her. She is an easy keeper and gets along well with geldings. She prefers women to men and does best with teenage girls.

Charlotte can flex, disengage her hind end, longe, back, etc. She has been ridden in a snaffle bridle and also in just a halter. With Charlotte being quite sensitive, even the slightest movements get a reaction (for the right rider this is could be a huge plus!).

Charlotte developed a bucking problem with her novice adopter in 2018. She was returned and a trainer has helped work her through her issue.
