About Rosita

This mare was removed from negligent owners in a joint effort between BEHS and law enforcement. She was then awarded to BEHS by the courts. She gained weight slowly, and we then learned that she was a trained riding horse. She attended the 2012 Bluebonnet Horse Expo where she met her adopter: a young girl who plans on using her for playdays and trail riding!

Evaluation and Training

Rosita's foster "mom" spent time this spring saddling and bridling her, and Rosita did fine with everything. She then sent Rosita to spend a few weeks with a trainer in August 2012 to figure out what Rosita knows. The trainer has been riding her at a walk, trot, and canter and says she appears to be fairly well broke to ride, although she's a bit lazy under saddle. He reports that occasionally she takes an off step with one hind leg that has old scarring on it, but then she moves off fine. He thinks she would be a great trail horse. Her foster home reports that she's a sweet horse who loves attention. She stands for grooming, fly spraying, and farrier work. She's not crazy about baths but tolerates them.
