About Thor

Thor was removed from negligent owners in a joint effort between BEHS and law enforcement. He was then awarded to BEHS by the courts. He moved into a foster home after being weaned. He was adopted in 2011 but returned in 2015 when his adopters moved out of state. Thor attended the 2016 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and was adopted at the event. He was returned in March 2017 because his teenage adopter lost interest.

He competed in the Non Pro Under Saddle Division of the 2017 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge where he did very well. He also competed in and won the Non Pro Under Saddle division at the 2019 Bluebonnet Horse Expo. Thor was adopted at both of these events but returned due to not being a good match with his adoptive homes.

Evaluation and Training

Thor is a sweet horse. He's had a lot of good handling on the ground ever since arriving in Bluebonnet as a weanling. He was started under saddle at an adopter's house, and then he was ridden by a non-pros in preparation for two Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenges.

Thor is very easy to handle on the ground and under saddle. He has been ridden on trails and at various arenas, and he’s quiet and easy going. His Training Challenge partner for the fall 2019 challenge worked on his lope and said he learned to work more balanced and learned to love loping! She thinks he has potential as a playday horse.

Thor is a very smart horse and will test new handlers to see what they will allow him to get away with. He has also been known to buck when first worked after a long period of being off. For this reason he needs at least an intermediate rider.
