About Tether
This foal was surrendered to BEHS after his owners were reported to the sheriff's department for neglect. His former owner stated that the foal was orphaned at two months of age and then left tied to a large piece of machinery until BEHS picked him up. After being rehabilitated, Tether underwent surgery for a large umbilical hernia. He recovered and slowly learned to trust people. Someone who met him at the barn he was boarded at fell in love, applied, and adopted him.
Evaluation and Training
Tether spent much of his short life before coming to BEHS tied to a backhoe. When he arrived, he was angry and snapped at people who came near him. With consistent handling, he is settling down. He is still food-aggressive, meaning he needs to be fed separately and may bite if he feels his food is threatened. With time and consistency, he'll likely overcome his food aggression issues. He is a cute little guy, but he'll need a home who has some experience with youngsters to help bring him along. Since he was starved early in life, he should not be started under saddle until his 3 or 4 year old year to give him some time to grow and mature. He could be a cute trail or pleasure horse when he's a little older.
