About Sunchaser

Sunchaser is a stunning palomino horse who makes any pasture he lives in even prettier. He was originally found estray, and when law enforcement couldn’t locate his owners they placed him in our care. He attended the 2014 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and was adopted, living several happy years in his home. In 2024, his adopters returned him when they could no longer keep him.

He has lived peacefully with a wide variety of pasture mates, including geldings, a mare, and a pony, and gets along well in a herd. He’s happy with a simple setup—hay, shade, and companionship.

Sunchaser is competing in the In-Hand 12 and Under Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Connor Barss. Sunchaser will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Big sweetheart who doesn’t realize his size
- Puppy-dog personality—meets you at the gate and follows you around the pasture
- Loves scratches, attention, and treats
- Calm, gentle, and very tolerant, even with children
- Leads quietly and is easy to handle
- Stands tied for grooming, bathing, fly spray, and the farrier
- Enjoys attention and interaction

Training & Abilities:
- Easy to catch, halter, and lead
- Lunges and works in the round pen at the walk and trot
- Responds to groundwork exercises, and is working toward liberty training
- Introduced to obstacles, tarps, and plastic bags with good progress in desensitizing
- Wears a western saddle and knows walk, whoa, backing, and changing directions
- Dog gentle and safe enough for kids to be around
- Safe for kids to handle and trustworthy for lead-line rides at the walk. Novice riders could enjoy riding him off the leadline at a walk
- Will walk with a rider but gets uncomfortable trotting and will buck

Background & Care:
- When he first arrived at Bluebonnet, SunChaser had a deformed front hoof with a deep split reaching to the hairline. Multiple vets and farriers have evaluated him, and although it cannot be corrected, he has remained sound barefoot in most environments. In rocky terrain or when ridden, he may need front shoes or boots, and he currently benefits from epoxy support on his hoof.

Why he is amazing:
SunChaser is truly the best of both worlds: he’s gentle enough for children to love on, but smart and engaging enough to make training rewarding. He is calm, unphasable, and affectionate, making him a perfect companion horse. With light riding, he could be ridden around at a walk, especially now that he is sound barefoot.

This big-hearted gelding will fit beautifully into a variety of homes, whether as a riding partner for short, easy rides, a companion to another horse, or a beloved pasture pet.
