About Bella Cara

Bella Cara’s adopters came to the 2015 Bluebonnet Horse Expo, hoping to adopt her. At the Expo, they learned that she was pregnant and wouldn’t be available for adoption until the foal was born. A few months later, they let us know they wanted to adopt her and her foal. They stayed in touch with her foster home, and once she and foal were both healthy and doing well, they got their chance to adopt. Congrats!

Bella Cara was returned in 2022 when her owners could no longer care for her.

Evaluation and Training

Bella Carra leads, loads, stands for flying spraying, and stands for a bath. When she came to the rescue, she was not good at having her back legs handled, but she spent time with a trainer and is now doing well. She longes well and wears a fly sheet and fly mask with no problems. She is not spooky: when she's heard a loud noise, she turns her head to look and then quietly resumes whatever she was doing. She should make someone a nice horse!

When Bella Cara arrived, she wasn’t easy to catch but her foster home worked hard to help her overcome that. Her current trainer says that sometimes it takes a few minutes to catch her but that she’s improving quickly. Bella Cara stands for the farrier, although she’s a little hesitant with her back legs and needs a patient farrier. She stands for grooming, fly spraying, and baths.

Her trainer has ridden her at a walk, trot, and canter in a round pen, arena, and in the open. She’s been on trails, taken over obstacles, and ridden around cows and introduced to sorting and roping. Her current trainer believes she needs an intermediate rider to continue her training but that she could be a kids’ horse in the future with more training.

Bella Cara is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Lily Garth. Bella Cara will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 8, 2022, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center.

Bella Cara completed the training challenge and was adopted that very day!
