About Castiel
Castiel and his herdmates were removed from negligent owners and placed with BEHS. He went to training in 2016, and we found out that he had been started under saddle but did not know much. His trainer worked with him for about six weeks, and he learned a lot. His adopter saw him online, and adopted him in February 2016. She returned him because he was not the right horse for her. Castiel won the Foster Horse Under Saddle division of the 2016 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and was adopted at the event.
Evaluation and Training
Castiel is a handsome horse who is sure to catch any pinto-lovers eye! He's halter broke, although he can be a bit pushy on the ground (he's getting better with regular handling). His foster home says he'll lead, back up, and stand well for fly spraying.Castiel spent about six weeks in December 2015-January 2016 with trainer Hilary LoBue. She says it seems like someone has ridden him in the past, but they didn't actually teach him anything. She thinks he was probably handled roughly, and he seems to enjoy learning now that he has a human who is willing to be kind and gentle with him. She said he elarned to take directional cues from the reins and move off of leg pressure. They worked over obstacles, and he did great. Hilary says his pushy behavior is gone as well! Good handling is helping him so much.He was adopted briefly but returned when his pushy behavior returned. He's going to need an adopter who will not allow him to be pushy and can consistently reprimand him. He thrives on consistency. His current foster home has been riding him over obstacles and in an arena and he is doing well.Castiel is competing in the Foster Horse Needs Tuning Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. He will not be available until the competition in Austin, TX on October 22.
