About Raleigh
He and his herdmates were removed from negligent owners and placed with BEHS. Raleigh was emaciated when he arrived, and his rehabilitation was touch and go. Thanks to an experienced foster home, he gained weight and blossomed. He went to training and turned out to be a nicely trained horse. He was quickly adopted (December 2015). He was returned in December 2016 through no fault of his. Raleigh is such a nice guy that he didn't last long, and he was readopted in February 2017.Raleigh's adopter absolutely adored him, but he lost him in August 2017 due to liver failure (cause unknown). Our hearts are with him.
Evaluation and Training
Raleigh has been an easy-going horse at his foster home. He leads, loads, and stands for the farrier. In November 2015, he went to a trainer to be evaluated under saddle. The first day she had him, she was able to saddle him, bridle him and ride him at a walk and trot with no problems. She kept him for two weeks for evaluation and a tune up. She says's very quiet and broke. She thinks he would be great for someone who wants to show ranch horses or SHOT or do trail riding. He jogs, extends the trot, lopes, canter, turns around both ways. He will go over trail obstacles. He's been ridden in arenas by children and adults of varying riding levels and has done fine.Raleigh should be a very nice trail, pleasure, or open show horse for a lucky adopter.
