About Zera

Zera was seized from a negligent owner by law enforcement and placed with BEHS. Zera turned out to be a very well-trained riding. She attended the 2017 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and was adopted by someone who had been following her on Facebook and met her at the Expo. Congrats to Susan M!

Evaluation and Training

Zera is fairly easy to catch, she leads well, she stands tied, she's good for fly spraying, bathing, and grooming. She stands for saddle and bridling (snaffle bit).

She stands quietly for mounting from the ground or a mounting block. She neck reins, stops well, turns with leg cues, backs well, and stops quietly. She moves into gaits with little effort - performing both upward and downward transitions well. She's good being ridden on a loose rein or with more contact.

She sidepasses, opens gates, and pivots. You can ride her through "cowboy curtains", over cavaletti, and over bridges. I have no doubt she would be good on the trail - I just haven't gotten to try her yet. This mare is well-trained enough that a novice can ride her and a more experienced rider can also enjoy her. With a little work, she could be an open show western pleasure horse, and a dressage instructor assessed her and thinks she would make an excellent western dressage horse.
