About Brooklyn

Brooklyn was removed from negligent owners and placed with Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society by the sheriff's department. She spent a long time in foster care because she was pregnant when she arrived. And after her foal was born and later weaned, she injured herself. She finally was able to attend an event on May 4, 2019, the Help A Horse Adoption Event, where she was adopted. She was returned in September 2019 after bucking when a horse who was being ponied off of her kicked her. Brooklyn attended the 2019 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and met her adopter at the event. Congratulations Brooklyn!

Brooklyn was returned in June of 2022 because her owner felt she needed a job, she reported that she's a fantastic horse!! She was quickly adopted again.

Through no fault of her own, Brooklyn was returned in June of 2024 due to a change in life for her adopters.

Brooklyn is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Katina Jimenez. Brooklyn will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 5, 2024, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE

The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 5, 2024, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.

Evaluation and Training

Brooklyn is a sweet and friendly mare. She is easy to catch, lead, load, groom, and saddle. She longes and lines drives with a saddle and without. Brooklyn has spent time with trainer Hilary Lobue in October-November 2017 and again in September-October 2019. Hilary says, "She can be pushy on the ground and needs someone who will correct her when she takes the lead. She is good for the farrier and grooming but sometimes paws when tied. She well stands for mounting. She loads and unloads in trailer like a dream. She had some dental issues in the past (see health information above) that caused mouth pain so her trainer feels she would do best with a hackamore or a happy mouth bit. She is very light in the mouth and responds very well with a hackamore. She has a smooth trot but does require leg to get her going and she has a great stop. She prefers to take it easy, ride trails and cross obstacles. She is not spooky and is happy taking the lead on trails. She has been fine with passing trucks, cows, sheep and barking dogs. She would make someone a nice trail or pleasure horse.
