About Gus

Gus was removed from negligent owners and placed with Bluebonnet by the SPCA of Texas. Gus spent time with several trainers as he was unpredicable under saddle. He was signed up for the spring 2019 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge because of his behavior under saddle. Fortunately, his former adopters had decided they loved him and offered to adopt him!

Evaluation and Training

Gus was not broke to ride when he arrived at Bluebonnet. He spent a few months with a trainer to be started under saddle for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. His trainer decided not to compete as he felt that Gus was not far enough along in his training.Gus spent several weeks with a trainer in the spring of 2018. She got him started under saddle and said he was quiet and sweet on the ground. Under saddle, he could be quiet lazy most of the time. She had a problem with him bucking if she touched him behind the saddle when riding him, so he spent a month with trainer Aaron England to work through his issues. He was doing fine when he left the England’s, and he hasn’t been ridden since then. He’s going to need a confident rider who can bring him back to work and continue his training. He he is still green and will need a confident rider to bring him along. He’s a handsome guy who so badly wants a person of his own!
