About Judge Roy Bean
Judge Roy Bean was found estray and placed with Bluebonnet when his owners were not found. Judge Roy Bean won the Non Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge in 2017. He was adopted at the event to become a family riding pony. He was returned in October 2018 when he didn’t work out for his family.
Judge Roy Bean attended the 2018 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and met his new adopter at the Expo! Congrats to Judge Roy Bean and his family!
Evaluation and Training
Judge Roy Bean was evaluated by trainer Dan Keen in January 2017. Dan feels he hadn't been ridden in a long time and that he did not seem to know much, but he added that Judge is a quick learner, is trusting, and has a wonderful spirit. Dan worked with Judge on the ground for a while and then both he and Judge's foster home rode him at a walk and trot in a pen. He was a gentleman when being ridden - he never offered to kick, buck or misbehave. His foster home said he never even swished his tail and had his ears pricked forward the entire time.
In June 2017, Judge Roy Bean went to spend four months with youth rider Sabine Lazo to prepare for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. Sabine has been riding him and exposing him to many obstacles and fun things. She says that he's smart, brave, and willing to please.
Judge is not suited for a novice or timid rider, though. He's a spirited, quick pony, with quick feet and a quick mind, and he could frighten an inexperienced or timid rider.
Since he's brave, cute, and a nice mover, he could make someone a nice trail, pleasure, or even show pony!
