About Sundae

Sundae was removed from negligent owners by the SPCA of Texas and placed with Bluebonnet. She was evaluated by a trainer who felt like she might have been ridden a few times in the past but was not truly broke to ride. She attended Bluebonnet's HelpAHorse Horse Show and Adoption event in May 2018 and was adopted by a family who met her at the event. She was returned to the rescue in April 2021 due to her adopter no longer being able to keep her.

Sundae was a bit shy when she returned to the rescue but her foster home reports that she has come out of her shell more and more with each passing month. She discovered how nice it is to be scratched and seems to really enjoy being groomed and curried. They also finally talked her into trying carrots and she decided she is a fan. She can be a bit buddy sour occasionally but is doing better with that.

Sundae foundered in 2021, but she has been treated. Her adopter will need to monitor grass and make sure to keep her off rich grass. She may need shoes or boots if she will be ridden in the future.

Sundae was adopted in 11/2021 but returned in March 2022 through no fault of her own.

Evaluation and Training

Sundae's foster home worked with her on ground manners. She stood quietly, without being tied, while they treated an abscess. She didn't like to stand tied, but she is improved with consistent work and reminders. Her foster home found that Sundae loved to be groomed, so maybe she had some great care and handling earlier in her life!

Sundae was enrolled in the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge but had to drop out when she developed a bad abscess. Her trainer at the time felt she had been started earlier in life but not ridden much as she accepted a rider but did not seem to know much. She only had a few rides with the trainer.

Sundae spent time in 2021 with a new foster home who had kids. They worked on building her strength and then began riding her. They said that Sundae moved off leg cues and had a wonderful trot. They said she did not like a bit but did well in a hackamore.

She was then adopted and did not do well with her adopter. When she was returned, she was much harder to handle and nervous. She's had time off and is ready for an adopter who wants to start working with her again. She could also be a companion to a lonely horse or a pretty pet.
