About Arrow

Arrow was placed with Bluebonnet when his owners could not keep him after Hurricane Harvey. According to a Texas A&M DNA test, Arrow is a Hanoverian and Missouri fox trotter cross. We do not have registration papers for him. Arrow won the Professional division of the Rescue Horse Training Challenge at the 2019 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and met his adopter at the event. Congratulations Arrow!

Evaluation and Training

Arrow had not been handled before coming to Bluebonnet. He spent time in the spring of 2019 with trainer Darrell Gardner to get tamed. He has spent June-October with trainer Kristi Breickler being started under saddle. Kristi says Arrow is very shy around new people and takes a while to warm up to them. He can be jumpy and needs someone who will take things slowly with him. He has pulled back when tied, but only is he is startled or when someone approaches him too fast. He is good for the farrier, as long as they take their time with him. Kristi and Arrow went to an obstacle course challenge, where he was around lots of new horses and people. He handled everything very well and completed all of the obstacles including; a bridge, pool noodles, walking on a mattress, side passing over a log. Arrow is willing to try anything with a confident rider who can show him the way. He does well on trails and in the arena. She has taken him around the barrels, roped a sled dummy and live cattle on him. Take a look at the videos at the bottom of the page! She has also taken him over poles and some small jumps, which he does very well. He loves water and will head into any pond for a swim if you will let him. Kristi says "He's my favorite. Always gives 110%. You truly only have to teach this horse something once and he's got it. Sometimes that makes it harder for trainers because they also remember every little mistake you make. He has proved to be a very intelligent and forgiving horse. He is all business and wants to please." Arrow is very smart and very athletic. He is still green and will need additional training but this beautiful guy has had a great start and is ready to go any direction an adopter wishes to take him. He is not suited for a beginner due to him being so young and very sensitive and responsive to his rider. He is ready to go in any direction with an intermediate or advanced rider who is willing to go slow with him at first until he builds trust.
