About Skeeter
Skeeter's owners surrendered him to Bluebonnet when they were investigated for neglect. They said they had not owned him long, and they could not catch him (they tried to rope him when Bluebonnet arrived to pick him up and then chased him with ropes). He did allow a quiet volunteer to approach him, catch him, lead him and load him. Skeeter is a sensitive horse who can be reactive but he is also very smart so he catches on to things quickly. He needs an adopter who enjoys working with hotter, and very sensitive horses. He will make a great horse for the right person.
In 2019, Skeeter was diagnosed with a bone chip. His veterinarian felt it had been there a while and was not treatable, so he became available as a companion/non-riding horse only.
Skeeter was one of seven of our companion only/non-ridable horses that were adopted by one of our supporters. She had the space, time, support system and love to provide a sanctuary, and forever home, to some of the hardest to place horses. Anna, Reba, Tippy, Skeeter, Meadow, Herald, and Miss Pebbles all came to Bluebonnet from different neglect cases, and they all are unridable due to old injuries, age, or conformation issues. These guys have found an amazing home. Thank you to Melissa A. for giving them a place to be - to be fed, to be loved, to be looked after.
A special thank you to Jamie Graham for the beautiful photos of this sweet boy!
Evaluation and Training
Skeeter can be caught, leads, and loads. He has been worked in the round pen and in hand through obstacles with a young trainer who entered the fall 2019 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge just a month before the competition. He did very well even and placed 4th with just a month of working together.
Unfortunately, Skeeter has a bone chip and is not available as a riding horse. He would be great as an in hand obstacle course or a pet and companion. He's a beautiful guy who would certainly make any pasture prettier!
