Our need for foster homes has reached a critical point at Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society. We need help to keep the horses in Texas safe.
Right now, we have fewer foster homes than we’ve had in years, and we’re turning horses away. Many of the horses we’re turning away have been seized by law enforcement or found estray. Some are starving horses whose owners would surrender them – if we had a place for them to go. Some of the horses we turn away end up being sent to auctions, some don’t get the help they need, and many suffer.
When you foster for Bluebonnet, we pay for or reimburse for pre-approved veterinary/medical care and pre-approve supplements/medications. We reimburse for hoof trimming (and shoes if pre-approved and medically necessary). We also reimburse for paste de-wormers, and we pay $20/month/horse fostering stipend to help with feed. All unreimbursed expenses (such as hay, grain, and shavings) are tax-deductible since we’re a 501c3 organization.
We need foster homes throughout Texas. If you don’t have a horse trailer, no problem – we have volunteers who help trailer horses. If you haven’t rehabilitated a horse before, no problem – we’re happy to teach you! If you don’t have time/experience/desire to ride or train another horse, no problem – we need foster homes who are willing to house and feed horses. We’ve got room for all levels of horse knowledge/experience and desire.
