About Mr. Wrangler
Mr. Wrangler is a grade Quarter Horse. He’s a kind, puppy-dog of a horse who thrives on attention and companionship. He came to Bluebonnet when his family had to downsize. Before then, he had been ridden by both kids and adults and got tons of attention, which he adored.
Now he’s spending his time loving being brushed, spoiled with treats, and doted on by kids and adults alike. Wrangler would be a wonderful pasture companion, family buddy, or light-riding partner for an experienced rider.
Mr. Wrangler is competing in the In-Hand 13 and Up Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Madi Martin. Mr. Wrangler will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training
Personality & Manners:
- Sweet, easygoing gentleman who enjoys attention.
- In-your-pocket type who loves kids and families.
- Gets along with mares, geldings, ponies, minis, donkey and even farm animals like cows, sheep, ducks and goats.
- Middle of the herd—neither dominant nor submissive.
- Does not like being left alone but is improving with training.
- Loves mealtime and comes running for food.
Training & Abilities:
- Ground ties well, stands for baths, grooming, and farrier.
- Started under saddle and broke to ride.
- Ridden by adults in the past.
- Has experience in arenas, round pens, and on trails.
- Comfortable with obstacles in-hand and under saddle.
- Enjoys ground tying, obstacle course work, and in-hand activities.
- Has been hauled and settles into new places easily.
- He has walked, trot, cantered in arena but has been a little while
- Lunging recommended before riding since he can be cold-backed.
- Ridden and assessed by a professional trainer within the past six months.
Background & Care:
- In 2022, a veterinarian diagnosed the beginning stages of kissing spines after he bucked under saddle. He was treated with an injection and cleared for continued riding with monitoring. Some horses never need another injection; others may over time.
- In early 2025, he suffered a tendon injury to a leg. He was treated, put on stall rest, and then cleared by his veterinarian to go back to work.
- In the summer of 2025, his Training Challenge partner had him vetted again because she was concerned that he bucked (once) when ridden and she was concerned about his earlier kissing spines diagnosis. The veterinarian noted “one narrow, mildly sclerotic DSP space with cystic lesion present” or in layman’s terms: he has one spot of mild kissing spine. He also noted a very mild lameness (1.5/5) on the front right. The veterinarian advised “to only have light riders or keep as a companion”.
- Because of the mild lameness and very mild kissing spine diagnosis, he will need to remain on Equioxx if adopters plan to ride him. His previous professional trainer also recommended lunging before riding, bringing him back to work slowly to help build his topline, and consistent training time (whether on the ground or under saddle). If kept as a pet, he may not require Equioxx.
Why He’s Amazing:
Mr. Wrangler is the kind of horse who makes people smile. He’s gentle, people-oriented, and versatile. Whether you’re looking for a companion horse, a light-riding partner for an experienced rider. or a family horse to brush, spoil, and love, Wrangler fits the bill. With his easy manners and affectionate nature, he’ll quickly become part of the family.
