About Buckaroo Bob

Buckaroo Bob is a gentle older gelding who spent many years as a trusted family horse. He was regularly ridden by both adults and children, and his former owners report that he was always dependable, patient, and easygoing. In the Spring of 2023, Bob suffered an injury to one of his eyes that left a lingering scar. Eye scarring can take a long time to fully stabilize, so his long-term vision on that side remains uncertain. He was briefly adopted but quickly returned when the adopter felt he was a little “looky” on the side with the scar and might not be the riding partner she expected. He has since settled into a loving foster home—someone who has known him for many years—where he continues to show the same steady, trustworthy temperament he’s known for.

Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Gentle, calm, and easy to approach
- Not bothered by dogs or activity around him
- Has a naturally steady, laid-back demeanor ("more whoa than go")
- Polite on the ground and respectful of personal space
- Fits in well with a herd and appreciates a quiet, predictable environment

Training & Abilities:
- Easy to catch, lead, and load
- Stands quietly for grooming, saddling, and the farrier
- Walks comfortably alongside a golf cart with his foster
- Has a solid groundwork foundation and responds well to calm, consistent handling
- Previously ridden by adults and children; likely to return to light riding with a refresher
- Best suited for walking and light trotting only—no jumping or strenuous activities
- May be a little “looky” on the side with his eye scar but adapts well when given time

Care:
- Experiences chronic diarrhea, even on pasture, but it does not cause him discomfort and is not medically concerning to his veterinarian.
- Thrives on pasture turnout and a low-stress routine
- Requires senior feed, and a lot of it
- Requires regular farrier, dental, and general wellness care appropriate for a senior horse

Why He’s Amazing:
Buckaroo Bob is a true treasure—gentle, steady, and full of heart. His years as a trusted family horse shine through in everything he does. He’s the kind of horse who builds a meaningful bond with his people and offers calm companionship in return. With his easy manners, and soft spirit, Bob is ready to bring peace, love, and quiet joy to the next family lucky enough to call him their own.
