Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Calm, patient, and willing to learn
- Enjoys attention and bonding with people
- Cooperative with grooming, hoof care, and fly spray
- Friendly and sociable with other horses
- He currently hangs out with a standard sized donkey
- Gets along with mares and geldings

Training & Abilities:
- Responds well to voice commands when lunging at a walk and trot
- Can give lead-line rides
- Potential for in-hand obstacle work or liberty work
- Evaluated under saddle by a professional trainer in 2024 who said he was fine to ride at the walk and trot (no bucking or silly behavior) but didn’t seem to know much
- Walk and light trotting riding suggested due to limited saddle experience and age

Background & Care:
Diagnosed with Cushing’s in 2024, controlled with Prascend
- He is older gentlemen so recommend soaking feed
- Pasture sound; thin soles may require shoes or hoof boots if ridden

Why He’s Amazing:
Wilbur has a wonderful temperament and an eagerness to please. He’s made incredible progress with ground manners, grooming, and handling farrier care. Wilbur is a loyal, adaptable, and a loving companion. He loves learning new things, whether it’s basic under-saddle work, or in-hand skills. Wilbur also enjoys spending time with his pasture buddy and absolutely loves attention from people—including big hugs!”
