About Rimmer
Rimmer might be just about the most gorgeous horse in any pasture! She’s not only pretty: she’s sweet, too and loves attention. She also loves kids, and she would really love to be a family pet. Unfortunately, an old injury left her with scars, and she was diagnosed with kissing spines in 2025. Don’t let that scare you. She really would love to be a pet and companion – she could teach children about handling horses on the ground and doing in hand obstacle work. She just can’t do any riding.
She came to us from another rescue that was overwhelmed with horses. Rimmer was briefly enrolled in the 2024 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge’s professional division but had to be withdrawn when her trainer relocated. Fortunately, she got another chance in 2025, and this year she’s making her Challenge debut with a youth handler.
Rimmer is competing in the In-Hand 13 and Up Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Hope Vaughn. Rimmer will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Training & Abilities:
- Foster home has refined her leading skills, hoof handling, lunging, ponying, and desensitization.
- Lunges with focus and responds well to voice commands and body language.
- Walks and trots in the round pen, attentive and willing to learn.
- Exposed to tractors, mowers, puddles, toys, barrels, poles, and busy barn life—remains calm and adaptable.
- Picks up all four feet, though she may kick out if rushed or uncertain with her hind legs.
- Good for baths and rinsing, though sometimes a little wiggly at first.
- Still learning patience with the farrier, particularly on her back feet but improving
- Self-loads onto the trailer with confidence and little hesitation.
- Has begun liberty training and is progressing well—follows cues off lead and stays connected.
- Enjoys mental stimulation from groundwork and obstacle challenge
Background & Care:
- Rimmer was diagnosed with kissing spines in 2025, and she is not ridable.
- Has worn front shoes in the past but is currently barefoot. She is pasture sound and comfortable without shoes.
Why She’s Amazing:
Rimmer is a stunning mare with endless potential in the right hands. While she’s not a candidate for riding, she could excel as an in-hand obstacle partner, liberty horse, or simply a beloved companion. She’s proven that she’s willing, brave, and eager to learn. Rimmer thrives on clear, consistent communication and has already taught her handlers the importance of patience and trust.
