Evaluation and Training
Vincent had not been handled much before coming to Bluebonnet, or it had been a long time since he had been handled. When he arrived, he was hard to catch and did not lead well.
He’s been in a foster home since mid-September 2023. He was integrated into a herd of geldings and placed in the middle of the herd hierarchy. His foster home can now walk up to him in the pasture if she goes slow and is patient. If she goes slow, she can also touch him all over and pick up his feet.
Vicent Van Gogh made leaps and bounds forward and his trainer started him under saddle. He will ground ties or stand ties. He is easy to catch and halter. Vincent currently has front shoes on to help him with the rocky terrain. They've been focusing on arena time while they work on the steering, bending, and brakes, but he's a good willing boy and his training is going to keep on progressing. His trainer has been throwing a rope off of him, too. He doesn't mind the rope going any which way, so maybe someone with more roping skills could turn him into a rope horse.
He loves cookies and attention, and he's hoping to find someone to bring him along after the Challenge. They have been riding in an arena, on trails, open and close gates, and throw the kids up on him and he's not going to run off. He's not the quickest mover or the most sensitive on-the-aids kind of horse, but he is honest, forgiving, and steady. Vincent Van Gogh will talk to mares while under saddle, but he hasn't done anything more than that, and a bump of the reins gets his attention back on you.
