About Winston
Meet Winston! He’s a handsome, 15yo, 16.1 Thoroughbred gelding who never raced. His previous owner pleasure rode him, but he was out of consistent work for many years before coming to us. He’s a big love bug, barn favorite, and a treat monster who is excited for his second chance at a forever home.
Winston is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Addison Hill. Winston will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training
Personality & Manners:
- Patient for trimming and shoeing (currently wears front shoes)
- Gets along with mares and geldings in turnout
- A sweet, people-oriented gelding who soaks up attention
Training & Abilities:
- Loads in both slant and straight load trailers
- Easy to catch and halter
- Leads, ties, and stands politely for grooming, baths, and the farrier
- Ridden both English and western
- Lunges at walk, trot, and canter in both directions
- Ridden in round pen, arena, and open fields at all gaits
- Started on trails and obstacles; shows confidence and curiosity in new places
- Neck reins, learning a relaxed pleasure jog, and working on stops
- Shows talent over small jumps—athletic, willing, and enthusiastic jumper
- Ground ties
Background & Care:
- Has had some lameness in the past but is improving steadily with corrective farrier work
- At the canter, he can be quite forward and currently needs consistent reminders to balance himself and carry correctly. With time, conditioning, and continued training, this is expected to improve.
Why He’s Amazing:
Winston is the full package—handsome, athletic, and lots of potential. He is willing, smart and has a curious mind, and an eagerness to please that makes every ride exciting. Whether he’s learning new skills, exploring the trails, or showing off his natural talent over fences, Winston gives his best effort and thrives with encouragement. Beyond his ability, he’s a true sweetheart who loves people, soaks up attention, and quickly becomes a barn favorite. With time and consistency, he’s the kind of horse who can grow into a trusted partner in nearly any discipline.
