About Lainey
Lainey (mom - formerly called Jamaica or Jam) and Tessa (daughter - formerly called Maisy)) came to Bluebonnet from a donkey rescuer who could no longer keep them. These two girls were much beloved pets and well cared for. They did have a bad experience with full sized horses and their donor told us they're scared of full-sized horses. They're currently at a foster home with mini horses and are doing well.
These two have been together all of their lives, through several cross-country moves, and they're very bonded. They must be adopted together and their adoption fee is $400 each.
Because mini donkeys are such easy keepers and obesity in donkeys is dangerous, these two need to be kept on limited grass - a dry lot or in a pasture with more weeds than grass. They do not need grain and will happily eat hay.
Evaluation and Training
Both Lainey and Tessa are enjoying tons of attention in their foster home. They run up for treats (limited numbers!) and pets. They may be a bit shy at first but they will warm up to and love someone who is kind to them and spends time with them. Like all donkeys, they learn best with positive reinforcement and can be trained (they are too small to ride, though, even for children).
