About Mr. Lee
Mr. Lee is a cremello, grade gelding whose genetic test tells us he’s part Quarter Horse, Hanoverian, and Selle Francais. He came to Bluebonnet when his previous owner could no longer care for him and entrusted us to find him a loving forever home. His story is a special one — originally rescued from neglect, then purchased as a companion, and now given the chance to shine as a riding partner. Mr. Lee is kind, smart, and loves attention. He’ll even smile for cookies!
Mr. Lee is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Jessica Dziekan. Mr. Lee will be available for adoption on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Training Challenge and Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, TX. Evaluation and Training
Personality & Manners:
- Sweet and people-oriented — he nickers when he sees you coming.
- Enjoys grooming, baths, and rolling in the mud.
- Good with mares, ponies, donkeys, and even chickens.
- Low man in the herd, respectful with pasture mates.
- Prefers turnout with friends but eats separately.
Training & Abilities:
- Easy to halter and catch (though he loves a bribe now and then).
- Stands well for the farrier, fly spray, and saddling.
- Refreshed under saddle and improving steadily — ridden in the arena, round pen, and open fields.
- Walk, trot, and canter, though he’s still green at the lope.
- Picks up both leads on the lunge line but can be sticky under saddle to the right.
- Introduced to obstacles, trail riding, and even water crossings — calm around dogs, cattle, and new environments.
- Has popped over small logs and may have potential for light English/jump work.
- Works in a snaffle or hackamore, western saddle.
- Learning to ground tie since he occasionally sits back when tied.
Background & Care:
- Wears a UV fly mask to protect his pink skin and blue eyes.
- Diagnosed with navicular; managed with Equioxx (57mg daily) and front shoes with 2° wedge pads.
- Someone looking for a smart, personable gelding to bring along for trail and pleasure riding, with the right management for his navicular.
- When Mr. Lee first began his under-saddle work, he occasionally expressed frustration with a small rear. With consistent training and encouragement to move forward, this behavior has resolved and has not been seen in over two months.
Why He’s Amazing:
Mr. Lee is a joy to work with and loves to learn. He’s gone from anxious and green to confidently tackling trail rides, obstacles, and arena work. He’s the kind of horse who will give his person his whole heart — nickering for you at the gate, standing for grooming, and carrying you through new adventures. He’s sensitive and intelligent, so he’ll do best with someone experienced who can give him clear directions and continue his training. He could make someone an awesome show horse with more training or be a fun trail or pleasure horse.
