About Speakeasy
Speakeasy is an awesome Paint mare with a bright future ahead of her. She originally served as a broodmare before being donated to Bluebonnet when her owner could no longer care for her. Since then, she has shown great growth under consistent training and exposure, showing herself to be curious, willing, and brave in a wide variety of settings.
Speakeasy is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Millie McCann. Speakeasy will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 4, 2025, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE
The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 4, 2025, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.
Evaluation and Training
Personality & Manners:
- Friendly, curious, and people-oriented
- Gets along well with other horses (mares and geldings) and is respectful in a herd
- Comfortable around cattle, donkeys, goats, and chickens, though she prefers to avoid pigs
- Easy to handle for grooming, tacking, and groundwork
- Smart, curious, and eager to please
Training & Abilities:
- She is learning to pick up correct leads, stay collected, and has a solid stop developing.
- Knows the barrel pattern and will lope through it.
- She’s been introduced to poles and could make a fun playday or all-around horse with continued training.
- Handled lights, noise, livestock, and crowds with no spook at a rode
- When in a parade, walked calmly with floats, firetrucks, bubbles, and people; tolerated splint boots for the first time with ease
- Attended a cow sorting event and behaved well around cattle, loud music, and arena activity
- Introduced to obstacles, trails, other arenas, and shows
- Lunges, flexes, responds to cues, and has been started on liberty work
- Now loads confidently into a trailer after patient practice; can haul with another horse
- Quick learner who already knows some tricks from her previous owner (such as pushing a barrel, side-passing over a barrel, and straddling a pole)
- Loves having a job and truly thrives when she’s worked consistently
- Athletic mover with the potential to be a versatile playday, trail, or all-around partner
Why She’s Amazing:
Speakeasy is the kind of mare who will give her all when given structure, consistency, and a purpose. She’s shown she can thrive in rodeos, parades, and playdays—now she’s ready for a forever partner who will help her reach her full potential.
