About Finnegan

Poor Finnegan has been through a lot in his young life. He was removed from negligent owners, and when he first arrived at his foster home it quickly became clear he had also endured abuse in the past. His foster worked patiently to help him overcome his fears and, in the process, fell in love and adopted him. Sadly, due to health issues, she had to return him so we could find Finnegan the safe, loving home he deserves.

Finnegan is an absolutely adorable donkey with a playful spirit. While he can be nervous around new people, but with patience he will come to you. With time to settle in and positive reinforcement (clicker training works especially well with donkeys). This sweet guy has a fun-loving side too—he enjoys running, bucking, and playing with toys in his paddock. His silly antics are guaranteed to keep you smiling!

Evaluation and Training

Personality & Manners:
- Shy until he gets to know you, but comes around in short time
- Playful with other equines
- Loves to get attention
- He currently hangs out with a gelding and does well.

Training & Abilities:
- Leads with patience
- Loads with patience
- Stands tied for short period of time
- Can pick up feet
- Likes to be brushed
- Best to train with positive reinforcement and/or clicker training – avoid punishment training as he has trauma from past abuse

Background & Care:
- Finnegan does best with full-sized equines. He gets along well with horses, full-sized donkeys, and even small ponies he lived with in a foster home. However, he did not do well with miniature donkeys in his adopted home, so he’ll be happiest in a home with larger companions.
- Finnegan loves food—maybe a little too much! To help him keep a healthy figure, his new home should plan on managing his diet carefully, often with hay-only feedings and limited treats.

Why He’s Amazing:
Donkeys are just amazing! They’re smart (which some folks mistake for stubborn), love to learn things like tricks and obstacles, and make loyal friends. Finnegan has had a rough start in life, but he’s still eager to learn and craves attention. Give this guy a chance, and he’ll repay you with endless love and laughter.
