Trailering Policy

Policy Number 25

Effective: July 31, 2007 Version 2.0
Policy

Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, Inc.’s (BEHS) policy is to trailer equines belonging to BEHS to new foster homes, veterinarians, trainers, or BEHS events.  BEHS also provides trailering for equines when working with law enforcement agencies.

Procedure

Any equine that is trailered for BEHS must be trailered by an Approved Trailering Volunteer (per the Trailering Volunteer Policy).

Foster homes who are also Approved Trailering Volunteers may trailer their equines to veterinary offices, new foster homes, or other events with the permission of the Foster Home Coordiantor or Trailering Chairperson or another officer.  No equine should be transported without the permission of the Foster Home Coordinator, Trailering Coordinator or another officer.

If an equine needs transportation and the foster home is unable to provide it, the Trailering Coordinator shall post the need to the BEHS Trailering email list.  An Approved Trailering Volunteer may volunteer to trailer the equine by contacting the Trailering Coordinator.

Once transportation has been arranged for the equine, the Trailering Coordiantor will notify the foster home housing the equine of the name and contact information of the Trailering Volunteer who will be transporting the equine.

If the Trailering Volunteer experiences any delays or problems during the transportation, he/she must call the Trailering Coordinator or an officer of BEHS to inform them of the problems and delays.
