About Little Gypsy

Little Gypsy was donated by her loving owner who was unable to care for her due to illness. She loves treats like alfalfa, carrots and apples. She is a curious mare and always wants to know what is going on in all the pastures around her. Her donor said she is a dominant mare in the herd, she is quick on her feet, and very spirited.

Evaluation and Training

Little Gypsy halters, leads and ties well.

Gypsy is easy to handle however she does have a few quirks. She does not like fly spray to be applied by spraying it directly. She tends to want to walk directly behind you and will crowd and accidentally step on you if you allow her to follow you around. She requires a patient handler to load in the trailer. She will panic and set back if you rush her or try to force her to load. If handled firmly but quietly she will do what you ask of her though.

While she does not normally kick or try to harm her handlers she does appear to have a fear based reaction to anything unusual or unexpected touching her rear feet and rump (training stick touching her belly, rope looped around her rump). She will kick out aggressively if startled or pressured in this manner so anyone handling her should be alert to this problem. Her foster home believes this can be fixed with some desensitization work.

Gypsy's donor reported that she was ridden 2 years ago, and occasionally lunged after that. He said he would ride her up and down his country road in a western saddle. We will have her evaluated by a trainer soon.
