About Gaston
Gaston was placed with Bluebonnet when his owner could no longer keep him. While at a foster home, he suffered an injury in pasture that resulted in a ligament tear in in his left front leg. After months of recovery and treatment, his ligament appears healed. However, his veterinarian diagnosed him as between Grade 2 and Grade 3 lame when walking and trotting in hand on a gravel/caliche driveway. Once he'd seen the films, though, his assessment was, "There are extensive bony changes compared with the films from last year, particularly in the sesamoid bones, and I would be very nervous about adding the weight of a rider at anything above a walk." Because of this, we’re offering Gaston for adoption as a companion/pet only.
Gaston is competing in the In-Hand 13 and Over of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Ashley Lucia. Gaston will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 7, 2023, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. Evaluation and Training
Gaston is a 9 yr. old Appendix Quarter Horse Gelding standing at 16.2H. Gaston definitely knows his size and loves food. He can get in your space and be a bit pushy at times, but with a confident leader that corrects manners, he quickly learns what is acceptable. He really loved his carrot/apple popsicle in these hot days. He loves being showered with water to cool off. When tied, he will shift/move his body around some, but does not set back, pull, or act out. He is very sweet and, in your pocket, not to mention one handsome guy!
