About Amethyst

Amethyst was supposed to compete in the 2022 Fall Training Challenge, but her trainer fell in love and adopted her.

Amethyst was returned in October of 2023, through no fault of her own.

Evaluation and Training

Amethyst was enrolled in the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge’s Professional division. Her trainer decided to adopt her fairly quickly and withdrew from the Challenge.

Her trainer/adopter started her under saddle but returned her after she started bucking under saddle. We sent Amethyst to trainer Dawn Fraiser in late 2023 for an evaluation. Dawn decided Amethyst needed to be restarted and first focused on her groundwork.

Amethyst is easy to catch and lead. She loads in a trainer if lead inside. She stands tied and is good for grooming, picking up her feet, and for the farrier.

While with the trainer, Dawn, Amethyst’s behavior under saddle did not improve. She was nervous and anxious, so Dawn asked to have her vetted. Unfortunately, her veterinarian (Dr. Honas at Texas Equine) discovered fractures and calcification in her spine. He believes she’s safe and comfortable as a companion horse/pet/pasture horse, riding puts too much pressure on her back and causes too much pain. It is neither humane nor safe to ride her (not for any size person – even small children).

We’re looking for a home where she can be a pet and companion. She likes attention and is good to handle on the ground, and she would love a person who would love her and enjoy her as a pet.
