About Sancho Panza

Sancho was donated to Bluebonnet when his owner could no longer care for him. He has a kind and gentle demeaner. He has been easy-going guy so far, quickly accepting new situations when presented by a confident and knowledgeable handler. The foster home was told he can be spooky with new people, but he has not displayed that in the foster home so far.

Sancho Panza is competing in the Professional division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Keeley Morrison. Sancho Panza will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 7, 2023, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 7, 2023 at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.

Evaluation and Training

Sancho has had little handling the last ten years. He will need refreshers with a knowledgeable person. It is not known at this time if he was ever fully trained for riding. He may have had some desensitization training in the past, but it is believed he was never saddle trained. He leads, ties, trailers, and picks up his feet, and will accept a saddle pad, but acts like he has never been saddled. He could be trained to be anything you might like, but his breed characteristics are best utilized as a trail or endurance horse.

Sancho Panza will stand tied and is good for baths. He has been lunged and ridden at a walk, trot, canter in both directions. He learned to ground drive as well. He has been ridden in arenas, over obstacles, and on trails. He's green and will need an intermediate or above rider, but whoever adopts him is going to get a fun - and gorgeous - horse.
