BEHS 1307 – Rowan

Rowan’s foster home says he’s sweet, and she’s been working with him to get him ready for and adopter. While with her, he’s learned to give to pressure: head down, turn head to side, backing and he is now very responsive to very light pressure. His foster home also worked on his steering and halting from rein/bit pressure on the ground and he picked it up quickly.

I've been working him (from the ground) in my bareback pad and will move to working him in a saddle once I'm sure he's comfortable with the pad. He seemed a little unsure about it at the canter, so I'm just going to keep putting it on him until it's no big deal. He’s also learned to lunge and round pen, and he’s learned to pick his feet up. He’s still a little nervous with the farrier, but he’s going to improve each time his hooves are trimmed. He also loads in the trailer.

His foster home has also taught him to carry a saddle and she’s been sitting on his back, preparing him for riding. His adoption fee will go up as his training progresses.

Rowan’s foster home says, “Overall Rowan is just a joy to work with. He is so very willing and really tries very hard to understand what I'm asking and to do it. He's super responsive and soft. He's also very friendly. I have never had to "catch" him, as he comes when called and then follows me to wherever I'm going. He's also very calm, especially given that he's just four. He's very engaged with and interested in the world around him, but it's more with a sense of curiosity than fear. Whatever I'm doing, he wants to come over and investigate.”

Rowan is a perfect age to train and he could do just about anything. We’re excited to see him adopted and see what he and his adopter accomplish together!
