About Lightning Bolt

This gelding was donated when his owners were selling their property and could no longer keep him. His foster home says that he is very gentle and curious and loves to be groomed.

Lightning Bolt is pastured with two donkeys and is the herd leader at his foster home.

Evaluation and Training

Lightning Bolt’s former owners said he was ridden in the past and wasn’t spooky.

His foster home says he can be hard to catch some days and easy others. He leads well, stands tied, and stands for grooming. He acted scared of water when he arrived, but his foster home holds his lead rope (instead of tying him) while giving him a bath now, and he does fine. Working on fly spray.

He’s been handled by kids on the ground and while grooming and does well. His foster home can lunge him at a walk, trot, and canter in both directions.

His foster home has ridden him in the arena and pasture. He does much better in the arena. In an arena, they’ve ridden him at a walk, trot, and canter both directions and have ridden over poles and barrels. In the pasture, he likes to GO and his foster home is working on slowing him down.

He would do best with a confident, intermediate or above rider in the pasture or on trails, one who can work at slowing him down. In an arena, he could be ridden by teens or adults with some riding experience. We advise any beginners/less experienced riders take lessons if they plan on adopting him.
