About Marley

Marley was seized with a large group of other horses by Houston Humane Society in 2023. She had very little handling and was placed with Bluebonnet for training and eventual rehoming.

Marley competed in the Professional Division of the 2023 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge.

Evaluation and Training

Marley had not been handled much at all when she arrived at Bluebonnet. She was assigned to the 2023 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge’s professional division where her trainer worked on her groundwork and got her started under saddle.

At her current foster home, she can be tough to catch – but does well with bribes. Once caught, she is easy to halter, lead, and load (if led inside). She stands tied and stands for grooming. She’s still working on being good for having her hooves handled and for farriers, so she needs a patient farrier at this time.

Her Training Challenge trainer started her under saddle and rode her at several events. She was adopted but returned quickly for being too green. She was hard to handle and nervous when she first moved to a new foster home, but she’s doing much better. Her current foster home has ridden her at a walk and trot both in an arena and on trails. She recommends a confident intermediate rider for Marley at this time because she’s still green.
