Aretha came to Bluebonnet in 2018 from a neglect case. Once she was healthy again, we discovered she was trained to ride. She was part of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with a youth rider and did well.

But Aretha struggled for a bit to find the right home. She was adopted and returned twice. Then Aretha met Bailey with YMCA Camp Cullen. Bailey is the Equestrian Director at the camp, and she thought Aretha might be just what they were looking for in another camp horse.

So, Aretha went to camp. And Aretha has thrived at camp!  This year (2024), she’s started off the camp season carrying beginner riders, and all of her riders absolutely love her.

Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right home, but we persisted and Aretha found her perfect home. AND she gets to show campers how awesome rescue horses can be!
